Kerry Dowd, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and her Master's Degree in Social Work from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Kerry was motivated to pursue a career as a therapist by her own experience in working through life challenges, in addition to the support and inspiration of her mother (who is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker). During the process, Kerry learned that it's possible to overcome challenges by embracing new skills and connecting with others.

Kerry gained broad experience by working in diverse settings.  Her  extensive therapy experience in the field of substance use and recovery  includes working in a jail, a drug court, and an inpatient treatment center. She has training and experience with individual and group therapy sessions. She has conducted workshops including teaching life skills. Her work for the aging  includes working with a rural population through a home health care agency. Youth-related experience includes work in Foster Care, as a School Social Worker, and weekend intensive grief processing camps for children who have lost a parent or caretaker.

Kerry values the healing power of human connection. She sees  opportunities for strong healing connections in life struggles and crisis. A crisis often forces people out of their comfort zones. Accessing the power of connection in a safe and judgment-free environment, Kerry assists people in crisis to change and grow. Kerry encourages self-awareness and self-forgiveness of past mistakes. She believes that individuals can transform life challenges into teaching experiences.  She works with clients to plan positive actions to overcome and manage challenges.  Kerry is proud of making a difference. She helps her clients move past crisis to develop healthier and happier lives and is proud of getting results. Kerry’s therapeutic methods include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.

Kerry will help you with skills and techniques to overcome life’s challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, relationship issues, negative thoughts, and behavior patterns. She will assist you on your path to hope and freedom. Now is a great time to start!

Kerry enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She has a passion for the outdoors, fitness, nutrition and meditation.  And if you can’t find her, you may want to look in Maine, whitewater rafting or on her friend’s sailboat.
