Dr. John Sanchez,
Medical Director

Dr. John Sanchez is a distinguished, board-certified family medicine osteopathic physician whose career spans urgent care leadership, family medicine, public health administration, addiction medicine, behavioral health, outpatient documentation excellence, and medical consulting. For more than two decades, he has served communities across Eastern North Carolina with a steadfast commitment to accessible, high-quality, patient-centered care.
Dr. Sanchez currently serves as Medical Director of the Outer Banks Health Hospital Urgent Care Center, where he promotes clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and a supportive environment for providers and staff. He also serves as Outpatient Documentation Advisor for ECU Health, guiding improvements in documentation accuracy, compliance, and workflow optimization across the system. His work extends deeply into public health, including roles as Medical Director, Lab Director, and Supervising Physician for the Hyde County Health Department, and medical leadership across the Martin, Terrell, and Washington County Health Departments. As a Consulting Associate with Duke Family Medicine and Community Health at the Duke University School of Medicine, he contributed to academic collaboration, mentorship, and community health initiatives.
Dr. Sanchez maintains a broad consulting and clinical portfolio, serving as Medical Director for Changing Tides Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center, OBX Renew IV To You, LLC, and previously Two Dreams Outer Banks Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center. Through Chez Says Medical Consultants, he advises on clinical quality, compliance, and operational strategy. He also provides ringside medical coverage as a USA Boxing Physician. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly two decades as Medical Director of the Community Care Clinic of Dare, strengthening care access for underserved populations and expanding community health resources. His leadership, compassion, teaching excellence, and clinical performance have been recognized with multiple honors, including the Beacon of Health Award – Physician of the Year, the ECU 5-Star Provider Award, the Patient Choice Award, and the Golden Apple Award from the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program for outstanding teaching and mentorship.
Dr. Sanchez completed his Family Practice Residency at Dallas Southwest Medical Center and his Traditional Rotating Internship at Tri-City Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Music Performance (Trumpet) from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
Outside of medicine, he is passionate about weight lifting, nutrition, and trumpet performance, maintaining a lifelong dedication to both physical wellness and the arts.
